A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ARTWORK

Six pounds is apparently plenty of room for this much personality.

Nobody told the Chihuahua it was tiny.

That becomes wonderfully clear when you start reading the words Curtis used to make this one.

Big Personality. Confident. Courageous. Fearless. Lively. Loyal. Quick.

Then comes the other side.

Adorable. Cuddly. Delicate. Devoted. Joy. Love. Loving.

And, because accuracy matters:

Shiver.

Curtis spent 12 hours drawing 58 different words and phrases into this Chihuahua, one letter at a time.

From across the room, you see one very small dog.

Up close, you discover there was absolutely nothing small about the personality.

INSIDE THE ARTWORK

I had a small subject and a very large personality to work with.

Detail of the original hand-drawn lettering in Chihuahua

Lettering detail from Chihuahua.

The Chihuahua gave me one of those word lists that practically writes the personality for you.

Adorable. Confident. Courageous. Fearless. Lively. Loyal.

Big Personality.

And then, sitting right there among all that confidence, Shiver.

I used 58 different words and phrases and spent 12 hours drawing them into the finished Chihuahua.

I think that contrast is part of what makes these dogs so much fun.

The size says one thing.

The personality has already entered the room and announced something completely different.
