A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ARTWORK

A lot of dog in a small space may be the most accurate description possible.

The Pug has somehow turned wrinkles, enormous eyes and a curled tail into an entire personality.

Curtis’s word list understands.

A Lot Of Dog In A Small Space.

Charming. Cheerful. Cuddly. Cute. Funny. Happy. Playful. Sweet.

Then come the wonderfully specific details:

Reverse Sneeze.

Rose Or Button Ears.

Spend A Lot Of Time Napping.

Wrinkly Face.

Curtis spent 16 hours drawing 81 different words and phrases into this Pug.

From across the room, the face makes you smile.

Up close, every wrinkle comes with commentary.

INSIDE THE ARTWORK

This one had me at “A Lot Of Dog In A Small Space.”

Detail of the original hand-drawn lettering in Pug

Lettering detail from Pug.

The Pug gave me one of those phrases that almost explains the whole breed by itself.

A Lot Of Dog In A Small Space.

Then came Charming, Cheerful, Cuddly, Funny, Happy, Playful and Sweet.

And of course, Spend A Lot Of Time Napping and Wrinkly Face.

I used 81 different words and phrases and spent 16 hours drawing them into the finished Pug.

Sometimes the best word lists are the ones that make people laugh because they recognize the dog immediately.

This one has several chances to do that.
