He spent 16 hours drawing and arranging those words until strength and silliness became the same dog.

That may be the Boxer trick in a nutshell: all that power, carrying all that joy.

Up close, the clown is written into the muscle.

I liked that the words refused to make this dog too serious.

The Boxer gave me plenty of strong words.

Athletic. Muscular. Protective. Strong. Strong Jaws.

But the list also gave me Clown, Funny, Jolly and Playful.

I used 80 different words and phrases and spent 16 hours drawing them into the finished Boxer.

That mix is what makes the portrait interesting to me.

You see the strength immediately.

Then you start reading and realize the personality has been hiding inside it the whole time.
