A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ARTWORK

A tiny pair of wings carrying a very long journey.

A Monarch can look delicate enough to be moved by the slightest breeze.

Then you read what Curtis hid inside it.

Migrate South 3000 Miles Per Year.

Metamorphosis.

Chrysalis.

Wanderer.

Wings.

And one phrase that gives the butterfly a meaning far beyond its size:

Symbol Of Transformation.

Curtis spent 12 hours drawing 57 different words and phrases into this Monarch Butterfly.

There is even an old bit of wonder tucked among the facts:

A Butterfly Landing On You Is Said To Be A Sign Of Good Luck.

From across the room, you see the butterfly.

Up close, you discover how far those wings can carry a story.

INSIDE THE ARTWORK

The journey is almost as beautiful as the butterfly.

Lettering detail from Monarch Butterfly.

The Monarch gave me a word list that naturally became a story about change and movement.

Caterpillar. Chrysalis. Metamorphosis. Pupa. Symbol Of Transformation.

Then there is Migrate South 3000 Miles Per Year and Wanderer.

I used 57 different words and phrases and spent 12 hours drawing them into the finished Monarch.

I especially liked being able to include A Butterfly Landing On You Is Said To Be A Sign Of Good Luck.

It gives someone one more little thing to discover after the wings have already caught their eye.
