The Cougar - Word Mosaic Art Print

Word Mosaic Art Print by Curtis Epperson

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ARTWORK

You almost expect it to disappear when you look away.

The Cougar does not need noise to have presence.

Neither does this piece.

Curtis built it from 77 different words and phrases that feel remarkably at home inside the animal.

Elusive. Eyes Of Gold. Focused. Independent. Lone. Mysterious. Quiet. Shadows. Silent. Solitary. Stealthy. Watchful.

Then come the words that remind you what all that silence contains.

Fearless. Hunter. Pounce. Powerful. Predator. Speed. Strong. Wild.

Curtis spent 19 hours drawing those words into the Cougar, one letter at a time.

From across the room, you see the animal.

Move closer and the quiet starts telling you exactly what is hiding there.

INSIDE THE ARTWORK

I wanted the words to feel as quiet as the animal.

Detail of the original hand-drawn lettering in The Cougar

Lettering detail from Cougar.

The Cougar gave me a word list with a very particular mood.

Elusive. Focused. Independent. Mysterious. Quiet. Shadows. Silent. Solitary. Stealthy. Watchful.

Then underneath all that quiet were Hunter, Pounce, Powerful, Predator, Speed and Strong.

I used 77 different words and phrases and spent 19 hours drawing them into the finished Cougar.

I like that tension.

Nothing in the animal needs to shout.

The power is already there.
