Farmhouse Chicken - Word Mosaic Art Print

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ARTWORK

There is more going on behind those feathers than you think.

A chicken may look perfectly content scratching around the yard, but Curtis’s word list suggests there is considerably more happening upstairs.

Clever. Have Excellent Memories. Observant. Solve Puzzles. Recognize Faces.

Another phrase worth finding: Can Make Over 30 Sounds.

And, wonderfully:

Dream When They Sleep.

Curtis created this Farmhouse Chicken entirely from 87 different words and phrases and spent 18 hours drawing them into the feathers, comb, beak and round little body.

The farmhouse charm gets your attention first.

Up close, the coop gets clever.

INSIDE THE ARTWORK

This word list changed the chicken a little for me.

Detail of the original hand-drawn lettering in Farmhouse Chicken

Lettering detail from Farmhouse Chicken.

I expected words like Comb, Coop, Hen, Roost and Pecking Order when I started working on this piece.

Then I got to Have Excellent Memories, Recognize Faces, Solve Puzzles and Dream When They Sleep.

Those were the phrases that made the subject more interesting to me.

I used 87 different words and phrases and spent 18 hours drawing them into the finished chicken.

That is one of my favorite parts of this kind of artwork.

Sometimes I start out drawing a subject I already know and finish it feeling like I have been introduced to it again.
