Australian Cattle Dog - Word Mosaic Art Print

Word Mosaic Art Print by Curtis Epperson

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ARTWORK

That dog has already made a plan for both of you.

Australian Cattle Dog people know the expression.

Bright eyes. Full attention. The unmistakable sense that the dog is processing the situation faster than everyone else in the room.

This is a breed built to think, work and keep going.

Curtis created this portrait entirely from 67 different words and phrases that capture that busy mind and working-dog heart.

Active Mind. Intelligent. Likes A Challenge. Born To Drive Cattle. Independent. Protective. Needs Exercise.

He spent 13 hours turning those words into the dog itself.

From across the room, you see the Blue Heeler.

Up close, the dog starts giving orders.

INSIDE THE ARTWORK

This word list had a lot of personality before I drew the first letter.

Detail of the original hand-drawn lettering in Australian Cattle Dog

Lettering detail from Australian Cattle Dog.

Some breeds hand you the personality almost immediately.

For the Australian Cattle Dog, I had Active Mind, Intelligent, Independent, Likes A Challenge, Needs Exercise and Born To Drive Cattle.

That sounded like a pretty good introduction already.

I used 67 different words and phrases and spent 13 hours drawing them into the ears, markings, muzzle and expression.

I especially enjoy pieces where the words become almost a second portrait.

You see the dog first.

Then you get close enough to meet the mind behind those eyes.
